Being tempted by our own flesh is part of being human. It is only through the power of God that we overcome and work through our fleshy desires. When we are tempted, it is a tactic by the enemy to woo and lead us into the lions den.
As believers, we have the power of the Holy Spirit to resist temptation
What vice has control of my life? What behaviors do I fall back on in times of weakness? Do I gain comfort in overeating, smoking or treating others unkindly?
Do I lay my temptations at the feet of Jesus to gain spiritual discipline, that is greater than any will power I may have?
What one thing can I begin today to give control of my actions and behaviors -to God, and out of the hands of the enemy?
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. John 14:16-17
Prayer-Father God, help me with this. Help me in my areas of weakness. Help me gain the discipline that You expect of me in all areas of my life. Help me to temper my quick response, using good spiritual judgement in all that I do and use self control in my daily behaviors. You are my time keeper, you are my score keeper and you are my gate keeper. It is only You that I seek to please. Remind me of this often. Remind me of this when I am weak. Keep pursing me as I actively seek to know you more and more.
In Jesus’ Name. Amen
